Design Review

Part Number: TPS53353

Hi,

I have the design done with TPS53353 for the below mentioned configuration:

Regulator  Design Efficiency
TPS53353 0.84V @ 14A 87.80%
TPS53353 3.3V @ 10A 96.46%

0.84V:

3.3V:

Kindly help with the review of the same. Or let me know, any of the features that needs to be looked into.

Regards,

Ranjana Naik

  • Hi Ranjana,

Can you please share the WEBENCH design for these 2 applications?

Also, can you give us information on the following.

    1. DC voltage tolerance (% or mV)

    2. Output ripple requirement (% or mV)

    3. Output transient (undershoot, overshoot) requirement (% or mV)

    4. Transient load step size to meet transient (% or mV)

    5. Max operating ambient temperature.

    Regards,

    Gerold

  • Hi Gerold,

    Following is the data:

    1. DC voltage tolerance (% or mV) : 12V with +/-5% tolerance

    2. Output ripple requirement (% or mV) : Less than 50mV

    5. Max operating ambient temperature : Lab environment ; max 30C

The webeench design is done for maximim efficiency

    Webench design is as below:

  • Hi Ranjana,

Here is the feedback on the 0.84V rail.

    1. Add a 1x10uF capacitor to the output mix - to minimze inter capacitor resonances.

    2. Ensure that the snubber resistor is 0805 - to have enough power rating (Fsw * Csnub * Vinmax * Vinmax* Margin (atleast 2))

    3. Ensure that the ceramic capacitors are atleast X5R or better.

    4. Connect a min 1uF, 16V, X5R, 0402 (min size) capacitor. Ensure that the voltage rating and size are sufficient that the capacitor is not derated. The 330nF in WEBENCH design may not be sufficient.

    5. Connect a  2.2nF to 10nF 0402 minimum 25V input capacitor from PVIN to PGND to minimize high-frequency ringing energy

Here is the feedback on the 3.3V rail.

    1. Please check the feedback divider network. The Rfb top of 41.2k gives only 3.07V instead of 3.3V.

    2. Please follow same guidelines for 0.84V as well.

    Regards,

    Gerold

  • Thanks Gerold for the suggestion on the TPS53353 design.

    Will implement the said changes.

    Ranjana
