BQ25898: Charging current in the standalone mode

Hi team,

I see the BQ25898's default charge current is 2.048A. 

Would it be possible to reduce the charge current in standalone mode as 500mA? If yes, how to set?

    Hi Yoshi-san,

    Unfortunately, no.  However, you could use the ILIM pin to limit the input current so that the charger can't provide more than ISYS+IBAT=500mA.

    The BQ25606 3-A standalone charger might be an option.

    I'd like to ask more question about BQ25898.

    1. To set the 100mA charge current for SDP, the customer need to access the IDPM_LIM to change the current limit?

    2. BQ25898 didn't support SDP 100mA charging in standalone mode. Is my understading correct?

    Hi Yoshi-san,

    Regarding 1, yes.  We had many customer complaints about their system not being able to power up when we set input current limit to 100mA if SDP was detected that we increased to 500mA.  Per USB BC1.2, the host is supposed to enumerate within a short time after startup and reset the input current limit as needed.  Few people do this.  Your customer can rely on VINDPM to prevent USB bus crash.
