BQ40Z50-R2: How to correctly set SOH Load Rate

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2

How to correctly set SOH load rate.

We have 1.6 Ah battery with typically 5A load current. Did I understand correctly that I can calculate SOH Load rate by 1.6Ah / 5A so the SOH load rate would be 0.32 so the register would be set to 3?

Or is there some advanced math behind it? Or some test cycle that will define the SOH Load Rate correctly?

  • Hi, Jaakko

SOH load rate can be set to typical current of the application, it is specified in Hour rate, which is TypicalLoadRate/DesignCapacity

  • (that is, Design Capacity/SOH Load Rate will be the current used for the SOH simulation).

So to get SOH load rate out of that equation it will be SOH LR = Design Capacity / Current.

And the equation you wrote is different. Which is correct way to calculate SOH load rate?

Is the TypicalLoadRate in C or in mA or in A?

Design Capacity should be mA or A?

Is the current used in SOH simulation in mA or A?

PS. It's not really helpful to just copy paste text from the specification and think it will answer the question. People usually ask here as they are unsure they understood the spec right, not to read again same stuff they already read.

Per calculation, the current used to estimate FCC is DesignCapacity*10/LoadRate, so for LoadRate for flash configuration, it should be LoadRate = DesignCapacity * 10/Typical Load Current.

So the formula TypicalLoadRate/DesignCapacity is not correct. Sorry for the confusion caused.
