BQ25601D: Asking for the recommendation on the BQ25601D application and register setting

Part Number: BQ25601D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25601, , BQSTUDIO, EV2400

Hi Team,

Customer is evaluating BQ25601 on the new project.

Would you please recommend the proper solution for this?

  1. In datasheet, it has below description. “Auto Detect USB BC1.2, SDP, CDP, DCP and Non-Standard Adaptors”. However, customer uses BQ25601D EVM with EV2400. However, bqstudio read 0x08 back, it shows in DCP mode. Customer tried various NB USB port, scope USB port. However, the register always showed DCP mode. Would you please provide comment how to test SDP, CDP and non-standard mode adaptors? Customer would like to see out register can normally feedback the right charging current case.

  1. In datasheet Page 3,  The device initiates and completes a charging cycle without software control. It senses the battery voltage and charges the battery in three phases: pre-conditioning, constant current and constant voltage, how to use register to know the pre-conditioning, CC and CV mode if it is doable?
  2. In datasheet Page 6, Charge complete or charger in SLEEP mode: HIGH   what is the status that will entering sleep mode? How to enter sleep mode?
  3. In datasheet Page 19, Non-standard adaptor Divider 1,2,3,4, would you please specific let us know what divider 1,2,3,4 device are? Customer need to test the different mode.
  4. In datasheet Page 22, charging current will decrease while in CV mode. How to use register to know the charging current?
  5. Page 34, Enable HIZ Mode, 0 – Disable (default),1 – Enable   When need to enter HIZ mode?
  6. In datasheet Page 36, fast charge current will continuous change? Is there any relation to question 5?
  7. In datasheet Page 38, do the design need to set REG00 and REG02 both to 500mA while USB port is 500mA? What is the difference between REG00 and REG02?
  8. In datasheet Page 44, 0 – Not in VINDPM, 1 – in VINDPM, 0 – what is the description “Not in IINDPM, 1 – in IINDPM, 01” means?

  • Hey SHH,

For 1) about the input current limit detection, can you confirm that jumper JP5 has been removed on the EVM? It simulates a DCP internal D+/D- short, so you will always see DCP detected.

For 1) See register REG08[4:3] to tell you the charging state. There is no differentiation between CC or CV, unfortunately.

For 2) The charger is in SLEEP mode, see section Power Up REGN Regulation or section 9.3.4 Boost Mode Operation From Battery, bullet (2), which describes the sleep mode condition. You can also see this in the EC table under VSLEEP.

For 3) These are adapters such as Apple adapters or Samsung adapters that have different internal resistor divider networks on their D+/D- pins.

For 4) You program the charging in register REG02[5:0]. However, this charger will not report the dynamic charging current, only the setting you select.

For 5) HIZ is used to disable the entire buck converter. An example for use is when using an portable device as your adapter, such as a power bank. HIZ mode will minimize the IQ used from such as device.

For 6) HIZ will disable the buck converter, which will disable charging as well.

For 7) REG00 sets the input current limit for the adapter side. REG02 sets the charging current limit on the battery side.

For 8) Please see section 9.4.2 Dynamic Power Management

    Regards,
