I am working on BMS for LFP batteries, and I would like to use extrenal power relay for commutation battery and load. As I use bq76200 to control charge/discharge, I would like to know, if it is possible to control external relay (for example with 12V coil voltage) using bq76200?
Hi Anton,
The BQ76200 would not drive a relay due to the low current capability of the output pins (CHG, DSG) intended to drive FET gates. If you are using a BMS IC like the BQ769x0 you might be able to drive a relay since the outputs have a regulated 12V nominal output, but you would need to check the current requirement since the pins will provide only about 2.2 mA short circuit. You may need to use signal FETs or another type relay driver to switch the relay coils from a 12V supply.
