BQ78350-R1: There is a problem in the bq78350-r1 device .

Part Number: BQ78350-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76930

Dear  All

I use bq7963000 + bq78350-r1 device, and the 2.5V power of bq78350-r1 is from REGOUT pin of bq7693000.

When I test the board in environment which is 60 degree and 90% humidity, after 168 hours, I find there are four boards of six boards, which the bq78350-r1 cannot work normal, and the bq7693000 device is very hot, I find the REGOUT pin is only 0.9V, the normal is 2.5V voltage.

       1. Did you encounter the similar problem ? How to solve this problem ?

       2. If you don't encounter, could you tell what condition that will lead to this problem on the bq78350-r1 ?

  • Hi,

REGOUT of the BQ76930 provides power to the BQ78350-R1. If REGOUT goes low, the BQ78350-R1 is powered down.

REGOUT can supply about 40mA of current before the current limit turns on. It looks like that is happening during your test. Something on your board is likely causing too large of a current to be pulled from REGOUT (maybe moisture on the board is causing a current path). The BQ78350-R1 uses very small current, so this would not cause the issue.

We have never seen this problem before. If the the BQ76930 recovers after cycling power, then it is likely the current limit of the regulator that you are observing.

    Best regards,

    Matt
