BQ24171: On/Off controller

Hi,

We are designing with BQ24171 and are interested in battery savings during light load conditions and extending the lifetime. Is there some way to interface this device to disconnect the battery during light load conditions? It would be great if we could do this without an external on/off controller and perhaps interface this to work with a button press. Appreciate your help with this.

    Hi Garret,

    I assume you are concerned about the leakage in SRN/SRP pins and also the quiescent current into AVCC through the diode.  If so, then you can add a low RDSon PFET with drain at SRN and source at battery.  You will need a pull up resistor from the drain to gate.  I suggest controlling the gate with a low cost NFET (drain to PFET gate and source to GND) with gate driven by VREF.
