BQ24193: Can OTG pin be left floating if PSEL grounded?

Part Number: BQ24193

Hi,

I have been reading through the other BQ24193 questions, but not found an answer to this specific topic.

We are limited in number of available MCU control pins, as well as routing space. I would there like to understand if we can leave BQ24193 OTG pin floating?

From the datasheet I only see the OTG pin being used when PSEL = high or REG01[5:4]= 10, two situations that will never occur for us. We intend to only supply from 12V adapter and never use on-the-go functionality, PSEL firmly grounded.

If it is recommended not to leave OTG floating, would it be enough to connect it directly to ground?

Thanks!

  • Hi,

OTG pin has no internal pull up/down resistor so we generally recommend to tie it high or low.  However, in buck charge mode, with PSEL grounded, OTG has no effect on determining input current limit.  Also, to enter OTG mode, when there is no input supply, the OTG pin must be high and CHARGE_CONFIG I2C register bits must be set. In this case, leaving it floating would not cause an issue for your application.

    Regards,
