Fusion designer Windows 7 porting.

Are there any plans to port Fusion designer to Windows 7? (instead of the discontinued, unsupported, and nearly obsolete Windows XP).

We have to keep two old XP systems around so that we can use this software. With the great majority of our development team working under Windows 7 this is quite inconvenient.

At the very least it should be able to support a virtual environment under WIndows 7, but your choice of configuring the TI PMB interface as a 'human interface device' makes that impossible.

Any suggestions?

  • Version 1.8 of the Fusion Digital Power Designer software has improved OS support and also displays better on PCs that have “large fonts” enabled.

It has been tested on the following versions:

    • Windows 7 - both 32-bit and 64-bit
    • Windows Vista - 32-bit
    • Windows XP - 32-bit

Version 1.8 has not been tested on Windows Vista 64-bit but should be compatible.  It has not been tested on Windows XP 64-bit.

The latest version can be downloaded at http://www.ti.com/fusiongui.

  • Our attempts at installing Fusion natively under Windows 7 (a couple of months ago) have resulted in a corrupt registry file, an unbootable computer, and several man-hours lost at getting the computer back to a usable state.

We will try again in January, but you might understand why I feel hesitant on taking this answer at face value.

  • I know of only one other customer who experienced a similar (same?) type of OS corruption back in June 2010 with a version of the GUI which was earlier than 1.7.123.  The Fusion GUI designer was unable to duplicate the issue but found a potential registry issue which was corrected.  I have not heard of any additional incidents of system crash since then but I've emailed the contact for this issue at the other company to see if they have implemented the newer version with success.

Do you recall which revision level of the FDPD software was installed when you experienced the corruption?

If you have the same version loaded on the XP machines then the version number can be found in the lower left corner (status bar) of the GUI window or in the dropdown Help --> About

  • Some more information:

We are using the last version, the path corruption problem was solved but we are left with the HUD device (the TI PMB interface) not being recognized under windows 7.

That is, even though the software runs and can be used in emulation mode, we have no way of talking to the actual UCDs in our system.

    This is a Windows 7, 64-bit installation.

  • Edgar, I will send you a provide e-mail to arrange a time to WebEx so I can take a look. I am running under Windows 7 x64 and have not had adapter issues since I made some changes to the underlying HID code to support x64.

  • Looks like Justin is all set after upgrading to the latest 1.8 GUI. There is one outstanding x64 issue: a button in Configure does not have the text it should:

This is the "Clear Restore Notices" button that is enabled after you perform a "Restore Flash to RAM" operation (execute RESTORE_DEFAULT_ALL PMBus command) and the GUI sees that there are differences between your old config and new config. It marks these with little icons. The button that has no text just clears these notices.

I will fix this in the next GUI release and post the Beta link here.

    -Mike

  • Ok, version 1.8.25 of the Fusion Digital Power designer, is working under Windows 7 64-bit. (with the exception of the issue indicated above).

    Thanks!

  • Opened another thread with a different bug: Multiple UCDs will not be detected by the GUI (none will show up).
