Hi Team,
I have a question about bq2000T battery detection.
How does bq2000T detect battery absent or not since I couldn't find any comment explains "Built-in Battery Removal and Insertion Detection"?
Regards,
Kai

Hi Kai,
From datasheet page 6,
Battery Chemistry
The bq2000T detects the battery chemistry by monitoring the battery-voltage profile during the initial stage of the fast charge. If the voltage on the BAT pin rises to the internal VMCV reference, the IC assumes a Li-Ion battery. Otherwise, the bq2000T assumes a NiCd/NiMH chemistry.

Hi Jeff,
It looks page 6 Battery Chemistry shows how to detect battery chemistry but what I want to know is how to detect battery absent or not.
Does bq2000T just monitor VBAT(battery-voltage) and know battery absent or not?
Regards,
Kai
Hi Jeff,
This is just a friendly reminder that I’m waiting for your reply. Thank you!

Hi Kai,
Figure 12. of BQ2000T datasheet shows battery insertion detection behavior: https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/bq2000t.pdf
Table 2. RC pin status describes behavior of RC pin when battery absent (timer is disabled and not counting as RC pin is at stable DC voltage). During battery absent LED will be high impedance. When battery is absent, the charger essentially thinks it is in SLEEP mode and once battery is connected, voltage at BAT will be below MCV threshold and charge cycle will be initiated. For more detailed description of Battery absent/SLEEP refer to bottom of page 15 of datasheet.
