BQ25504: BQ25504

Part Number: BQ25504
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25505

Hi,

I am looking for a similar product to fullfill my requirement:

- system running on primary lithium battery 3.6V

- Energy harvesting is done at a voltage of approx 5V with a current of max 10mA.

- system has 2 DC/DC converters 3.3V (800mA) and 2.8V (150mA)

- average current is in the range of 50uA (even less).

- a supercapacitor is used in order to:

- provide enough peak current for RF communication

- save energy harvested.

What would be the recommened part.

Thanks.

  • Giso,

Have you looked at BQ25570? You would be able to set up your primary battery on VBAT, your super capacitor on VSTOR, and get a regulated 3.3V output from VOUT. For the 2.8V rail you would need to have buck converter on VOUT to step down from 3.3V to 2.8V.

    Thanks,

    Ricardo

  • Ricardo,

Connecting a non rechargeable battery on VBAT would not create problem?

    Thanks,

  • Giso,

The battery on VBAT would have to be rechargeable as it is connected to  VSTOR via body diode and the non rechargeable battery could receive a charge current. You could switch to a rechargeable battery to avoid this problem.

Another solution would be to use BQ25505 with the non rechargeable battery on VBAT_PRI and use TPS6273X to generate the 3.3V rail. You would need another buck converter or an LDO to generate the 2.8V rail.

    Thanks,

    Ricardo
