Leakage current issues of Schottky Diode

Dear Sir,

I need a function to detect the DC cable that plug or not plug.

My simple circuit

Vin=4V connect Diode_P;   Diode_N connect a super- super cap.

My test procedure:

1: DC power on and charge the super-cap to 3.8V.

2: unplug the DC cable.

3: Because the diode leakage current issues (100uA), I sill can measure the 3.8V on the Diode_P.

4: MCU can't decision  the DC cable that plug or not plug

Do you have any idea to resolve the leakage current issues??

  • Hi Gordon,

Which TI solution are you using in your design? I'd like to know which TI expert would be best to answer your question.

    Thank you,
    Eric

  • Hi Gordon,

Just to clarify, you want a method/circuit to correctly detect when the dc-cable is unplugged, correct?

  • Hi Gordon,

There might be a few solutions that you can use. Before I suggest anything, you are stating that you are charging up a super cap.

How are you mitigating the inrush current during this charge phase? Do you can for suppressing this current?

Any solution will have some leakage so you might still see the voltage but I think a solution can be chosen with a status output which could then be used by the MCU to note if the cable is plugged in or not.

Edit: Just want to follow up on this. Have you worked around your issue?
