TPS2660: OC conduction time

Guru 11170 points
Part Number: TPS2660

Hello E2E,

When set to low OCP threshold that OC conduction time is to be long.

- OCth set to 0.6A, OC conduction time is 50msec -> FET latch off

- OCth set to 0.2A, OC conduction time is 6sec -> FET latch off

Please let me know the reason about OC conduction time stretch by OC threshold settings.

  • Hi,

In current limit mode, the device maintains constant current value which was set at Rilim. The power dissipation across the device in current limit mode is (VIN-VOUT)*I_limit. This power dissipation causes the device junction temperature to rise and device latch-off when it hits thermal shutdown temperature. As you see, higher the OC threshold (I_limit), lower will be the time the device takes to hit thermal shutdown.
