Classification of UPoE and BT

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2379, TPS2373

Hi Team,

For the classification priority of modeA or modeB, is there any rule for UPOE and BT?

For example: UPoE's classification will identify PD as modeA, then modeB

802.3BT will identify modeB first, then modeA

Is this true?

Thank you very much,

C.T.

  • Hello C.T.,

Please identify the device you are using or planning to use in this design.

    Thank you,

  • Hi Leonard,

May I ask is this about device? I thought it's about the UPoE and IEEE802.3bt standard?

If use TPS2379 as UPoE device, and TPS2373 as 802.3bt device, then how's the identification priority?

    Thank you.

    C.T.

  • Hi Chentsu,

The slight difference is that the third finger must be able to be processed from BT PSE. TPS2379 cannot process a third finger but the TPS2373 can if wanting to do dual signature PoE. Note a .BT PSE for dual signature will look for Class 4 current in the first two fingers and a Class 0 current in the third finger when in dual signature structure. A forced UPOE PSE will look for Class 4 on two fingers on each channel.

Please let me know if this clarifies your question. Thanks!
