BQ25895M: BQ25895M PMID question

Part Number: BQ25895M

Hi TI experts,

Boost Mode is required for the BQ25895M application. There are the following questions:

1. Can PMID be used as a function similar to DCDC to power other circuits?

2. Can PMID set fixed 5V(or other voltage)?

3. When the application product is wired + wireless function, how to switch between wired (USB power supply) and wireless (lithium battery power supply), PMID can output fixed 5V(or other voltage)?

  • Hi Gary,

First, the charger operates in either boost mode, providing 5.XV to PMID, or buck charge mode, when power is applied to VBUS.  PMID is not regulated to 5.X V while VBUS is applied.

Regarding 1, yes. In boost mode, PMID is output of a voltage regulating boost converter that is powered by the battery.

Regarding 2, yes, using I2C you can be set PMID to 4.55V – 5.51V with default 5.126V.

Regarding 3, if you by wired and wireless you are referring to the USB cable being applied to VBUS or not the yes, however, there is a 30ms delay from boost mode turn on (VBUS removal assuming OTG bit and pin are high) and PMID regulating to 5.0V.

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

    thanks a lot

so when VBUS is 7V,the PMID output 7V?

  • Hi Gary,

Yes.  There is only a FET between VBUS and PMID.  It is used for reverse blocking and current sensing.
