TPS2121: Leakage Current , Quiescent Current, Standby Current

Part Number: TPS2121

Hi team,

Let me ask you basic question.

Could you please explain definition of each Quiescent Current, Standby Current and Leakage Current of this device in detail?

My customer would like to know especially for what leakage current mean of this device.

Best regards,

Shota Mago

  • Hi Mago-san,

Let us assume there are two sources IN1 = 5V and IN2 = 5V. The device is set to prioritize IN1. Here are the explanations:

    1. Quiescent Current - IN1 is powering the output (output is open load here). Quiescent current is the current that is flowing from IN1 to GND of the device.

    2. Standby Current - IN2 is not powering the output but the VOUT voltage and IN2 voltage is the same. The standby current is the current from IN2 to GND of the device

Now let us assume that IN2 is removed so IN2 = 0V. The device is still passing IN1 to the output.

    3. Leakage current - IN1 and VOUT are the same voltage but there is a voltage delta between IN2 and VOUT. The leakage current is the current flowing from VOUT to IN2.

Leakage current is bidirectional in nature and is between the input channels and output. Quiescent and Standby current is between the input channels and GND.
