ULN2003A: DC motor drive

Guru 16770 points
Part Number: ULN2003A

Hi

We consider to drive DCM with ULN2003A.

We want motor current sensing by inserting current sensing resistor at low side of ULN2003A.

I attached image.  Could you please check if it is feasible?

  • Hi User,

These deices do not have any "loss of GND" protection so I think this could work. My only concern is that there will be a voltage offset between true GND and device GND. This could affect the drive voltages on the input pins.

I would suggest testing this with purely resistive load first to confirm the operation.

  • Hi Shreyas

    Thank you for your reply.

I understood that you could judge this ULN2003A configuration can work basically.  Is it right?

Could you explain loss of GND protection?   I'm sorry for your inconvenience.

  • Hi User,

This is a feature in other devices(not on any TI low side switch) where the device senses a rise on the voltage on the GND rail and the and the device shuts down. This is not a concern here.

I think the application can work.
