BQ2000: 12V or 24V Lead Acid Battery Fuel Gauge/ Battery Moniter

Part Number: BQ2000

Can anyone recommend a battery monitor/ fuel gauge for a 12V or 24V lead acid battery ((UB1250, the first two letters may vary) 12V 5.0Ah))? My application is in a backup power situation with either a 12V or 24V (i.e. 2 batteries in series) battery supply. I have a i2c spi and uart compatible MCU as well as GPIO.  Basically I would like the MCU to be able to monitor the current usage of the battery and be able to prepare to shutdown before the battery dies and be able to display the amount of battery left but that part should be a simple task.  The IC package minimally matters other than it not being able to be hand soldered i.e. not QFN DFN BGA SON, etc. DIP is optimal but not nessacery.  Also, can the BQ200 family charge a lead acid battery(recommendations for a lead acid battery charger that can charge at ~500mA would be accepted as well with above package considerations)?
