BQ24650: Can high-side driver signal be referenced to ground?

I'm interested in using the BQ24650 to drive a buck converter, but instead of directly using MOSFETs, I want to have it drive a half-bridge circuit (EPC9201) that has low- and high-side signal inputs. The high-side driver signal is referenced to ground in the half-bridge circuit, but the BQ24650 has a level shifter on the high-side driver. Can the BQ24650 high-side driver be referenced to ground (e.g. PH pin to ground, BTST pin to 5 V) so that these two circuits could be used together? Thanks.

Hey yu,

There is no true level shifter, but rather a bootstrap capacitor and diode. Normally the buck converter has this bootstrap referenced to the phase node.

This configuration has not been validated, but it may be possible. It is possible that some protection may trip.

What are you trying to do overall with this external circuit?

How are you driving the FB of the charger?

I want to reduce the loss of components through the external module, and use the same feedback for the feedback method.

Hey Steven,

Ok got it. Yes, then this may be possible. You may be able to tie PH to GND to have HIDRV referenced to ground.
