Dear Sir/Ms.

Excuse me, I currently have a BMS project to evaluate, because the BQ78350 has two communication interfaces (one I2C, one SMBUS), and the current customer's desired architecture is BQ76200+BQ78350+MCU. The MCU through the PC allows the MCU to control the BQ78350 via 485 communication. In this case, my client can use the SMBUS communication protocol. How can I connect? Is there any example of connection for reference? The customer also asks about the sample program in addition to the hardware?

Hi Kami,

I'm not sure I understand the question. An MCU should be able to communicate to the BQ78350 through the SMBus. If you want to connect with a PC, you should use an EV2400 (available on ti.com) and BQStudio software (see the links below). The BQ78350-R1 Technical Reference Manual describes the SMBus commands for the BQ78350-R1 and if you have a logic analyzer, you can monitor the transactions between the EV2400 and the BQ78350-R1 to see examples for the different commands.

Hi Yanchi,

Here is an app note that describes SMBus: http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slua475 SMBus is similar to I2C and there are plenty of resources online.

The BQ78350-R1 TRM describes the SMBus commands for the device. If you have a logic analyzer, you can monitor the SMBus communication from an EV2400 and BQStudio to better understand how the communication protocol works.
