BQ77915 and BQ24715

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ77915, BQ24715

Hi,

I am trying to make a  battery management system with BQ77915 and BQ24715 for the system with 3s2p configuration. I have a confusion regarding load connection.  I am attaching the schematic below

  • Should the load be connected only through BQ24715 or should it be connected across BQ77915 Bat+ terminal also?
  • Can you please tell me the conditions where P-ch mosfet Q5 at BQ24715 would be on/off?
  • How can BQ24715 IC be programmed  according to the required ratings?

thank-you

Regards

B.Harini Krishna

  • Hey Harini,

The load can be connected either way. If connected to the battery directly (BAT+), the charging current programmed into the charger will be shared by the load and the battery.

If you place the load through the BQ24715, the adapter will supply both the charging current programmed, and the maintain the battery charging current (assuming you do not hit an protection features. The external PMOS is diabled when the charge current is set to 0mA, BATOVP is triggered, if you select the Charge Inhibit bit in the Charge Options register.

Th charger is completely programmable via SMBus. You need to write to the appropriate registers to program the charging settings to your required battery ratings.
