Hello to TI support team , ( bq78350-r1 issue . CH FET disable during sleep )

I have question according use of "sleepCHR bit =0 " . I see that IC turn off Charge fet during disconnection from EV-2300 and it is ok , but i don't see charge fet back to turn on after discharge ,as well it disable charge , Only after SMBus connection it turn on Charge FET .

Hi Alex,

This bit will configure the CHG FET to turn off whenever the device is in Sleep Mode. The device will go into Sleep mode when the |Current()| is less than or equal to the Sleep Current (10mA is the default setting for Sleep Current). Activity on the SMBus brings the device out of Sleep mode which will turn the CHG FET back on.

Mat thanks for your quick response ,

It seems that SMBus is the only condition exit the IC from sleep and turn CHG FET back on . Discharge current doesn't make this effect .

Hi Alex,

Can you send your data flash settings (you can click Export from the Data Memory screen of BQStudio to save this file)? What is the Sleep Current set to? Are you using any kind of current scaling?

Hi Matt ,

I attach data flash settings ., sleep current is in default state 10 mA .

1. Why after connecting discharge current (tested 0.5A , 1A ) in this state CH-FET still off (exit from sleep matt_TI_support.gg.csv) ?

2. Why Charger Connection on this state doesn't set CH-FET to on and start charging (exit from sleep) ?

Hi Alex,

There could be a fault condition that is preventing the CHG FET from turning back on. The flash settings also have the CHGIN bit set that keeps the CHG FET off if the temperature is outside of the defined range.

Can you collect a log file from BQStudio showing the behavior (Click 'Start Log' from the BQStudio Registers screen)? This will show what is happening in the status registers under different conditions. Collect the log under different conditions (apply different discharge loads, no load, and with a charger connected). This will help debug why the CHG FET is not turning on.
