Hello

How can I program microprocesser in BQ76PL455EVM ? I want to change codes of the EVM and try my own algorithm on the board ? I could not see any pin to connect microcprocessor on board in datasheet ? Actually J3 seems to be right connector but I could not be sure whether I can program it via J3 or not? If I can, what can be pinout of the USB ?

To sum up , I will connect with USB by using CCS and try to implement my own code.

1. Can I do that?

2. Which connectors should I use on board ? Can you share me the pinout ?

3. Does USB fits for that ?

4. Do I need any JTAG component or can I directly connect USB to the J3 ?

Please find the example code using CCS and the TMS570 mcu here at the bottom: http://www.ti.com/product/BQ76PL455A-Q1/toolssoftware and then please use the getting Started application report here http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slva635/slva635.pdf for explanation on connecting the pins.

Thanks for quick reply. I know that I can use related software and I know the started application and I know how to do it on BQ76PL455A-Q1. Problem is with evaluation board of same chip .

Please consider all questions with BQ76PL455EVM ?

I need to be able to program BQ76PL455EVM by using TI drivers or library whatever you call it. All questions in my mind are related with this issue.

1. Can I program microchip of the BQ76PL455EVM board?

2. If so, will I connect with J3 connection socket ? If not, how should I connect?

3. If so, will I connect with USB to J3 ? If so, can you share me the pinout of the connection ?

4. If so, Will I use a JTAG component or do I need to connect POWER, DATA+, DATA- and GND pins directly to the J3 to program it ?

Yusuf,

As I mentioned, please read over the documents first as the answers to all these questions are there, if you are confused about a piece of the document then come back to this forum to clarify. Specifically see section 3.1 of the getting started guide to see the jumper connections. The bq76pl455a-q1 is the device and the EVM has the same device on it, so they are one in the same for the sake of these questions.

Hi Taylor,

I got your point. I have last question. Does that document mean that I can program microchip in the evaluation board by using CCS with a TTL-232-5V connected to J3 of evaluation board.

I will be happy if you confirm if it is true .

Hi Yusuf,

No, you cannot use this FTDI cable for programming with the TMS570 mcu. You will need to follow the table above to blue wire the connections to J3. This FTDI cable is only for use with the GUI.

Hi Taylor,

I am sorry that I did not understand yet clearly despite reading datasheets and your replies. What I understand is I cannot program microprocessor in BQ76PL455EVM by using TTL-232-5V. Thats a great learning for me.

Here is the blurred part:

I have USB port on my PC that will be used for programming and it has 4 pins like 5V, DATA+, DATA-, GND.

J3 Connector has pins that I have written below.

1	2	3	4	5	6
Ground (Black)	Fault	5V	RC from PC	TX from bq	WAKE

How Can I connect these to each other ? I dont think connecting just 1,3,4,5 pins to USB will be useful.

Is any connection device between two connectors needed ?

When I connect , Will I be able to program in on CCS?

Yusuf,

The piece you are missing is the TMS570 mcu launchpad. Section 3 of the document sent above explains how to obtain this hardware and the table explains how to connect this J2 of the TMS570 to J3 of the EVM.
