BQ25101: BQ25101's question

Part Number: BQ25101
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ21061

Hi team ,

my customer is surveying the charger solution for their application , and they are survey the BQ25101 first and have the regarding questions as below

please kindly help for provide the answer , thanks a lot!

1. Does BQ25101 can support 2.6mA charger current?

From the datasheet it shows that the low charging current can support to 10mA , not sure if can support much lower to 2.6mA per customer spec.
of not , do we have any solution can support to this spec(min = 2.6mA)?

2.  Customer want to know CC mode to CV mode's timing.

do we have the regarding data to provide ? or is there any calculated formula for reference?

Andy

  • Hello Andy

    1. Does BQ25101 can support 2.6mA charger current? --- Bill J - The recommended minimum fast charge current is 10mA.  Setting fast charge current to 2.6mA can cause problems and is not recommended.

    2.  Customer want to know CC mode to CV mode's timing. ---Bill J -- The timing between start of pre-charge and start of constant voltage is set more by the battery, not the charger.

  • Hi Bill,

thanks for the feedback, further questions

do we have any charger solution which can support  min = 2.6mA charging current?

    customer's spec is 5Vin , 4.2Vout , charging current=2.6mA~100mA , battery type: Li-Pol ,1 cell

  • Hi Andy

A fast charge current of 2.6mA is difficult, the BQ2510X is the best we can offer now ant the fast charge current will be 10mA with termination at 1mA.

  • Hi Bill

I know BQ25101’s lowest charging current is 10mA, but customer needed the charging current at 2.6mA,so that's why they think BQ25101 is not fit.

I also consult with marketing team and they says for charge current support low to 2.6mA , our best fit solution is BQ21061.
not sure if you have others suggestion?

    thanks!!

  • Andy,

I work with Bill and will be happy to help answer any questions you may have on the BQ21061. The BQ21061 does support a fast charge current of 2.5mA, unlike the BQ25101. However, it is important to note that the BQ21061 is a 20-pin I2C programmable power path charger with integrated LDO, so it is a different class of device to the 6-pin BQ25101 which is a much simpler non-power path standalone charger. You will need to check with the customers if there are any concerns' with moving to a larger more feature rich device.

The default fast charge current of the BQ21061 when the battery voltage is > 3V is 10mA (Fast Charge) and the default precharge current (VBAT < 3V) is 2.5mA. The customer would need to change the fast charge through I2C to 2.5mA setting and be able to handle 10mA of charging current until the uC is able to program the charger to the desired current.

Let me know if you have any questions.
