BQ40Z50-R3-DEVICE-FW: ZVCHG & Accumulated Charge

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R3-DEVICE-FW

Hi,

Recently I'm doing the settings for BQ40Z50-R3. There are two settings that I can't find more details on the tech ref.

1. ZVCHG Exit Threshold: What is ZVCHG exactly? And how does this function work?

2. Accumulated Charge: How does this function work? When does charge measurement function starts? Is it possible to set the threshold related to SoC? Do we need additional register setting to enable or disable this function?

I would appreciate it very much if someone could help me with these questions!

Best Regards,

Zhihan

  • Hi, Zhihan

ZVCHG exit threshold is the threshold for the gauge to exit ZVCHG mode, if the ZVCHG is allowed and the voltage is below this threshold, then the gauge transitioned to ZVCHG mode. if the voltage is above this threshold, the gauge would exit

bq40z50 can be configured to alert the host when the accumulated charge to the battery has surpasses a set threshold, this threshold is configured in this Accumulated Charge unit, once the accumulated charge is greater than this threshold, once this threshold has passed, a bit ACTHR in OperationsStatus will be set. For details, please refer the section6.13 in bq40z50TRM

  • Hi Steven,

Thank you very much for your help!

For ZVCHG, can I say normally the fuel gauge won't enter this mode if we set CUV higher than ZVCHG exit threshold? What may happen if the fuel enter this mode?

For accumulated charge, I see there is a threshold for discharge which is negative. So when the battery is below dsg threhold or over chg threshold, ACHTHR will be set right?

I would appreciate again for your help!

  • Hi, Zhihang

My understanding is that if SUV is disabled, then the ZVCHG can be entered when the conditions are met

Accumulated discharge is the same thing as accumulated charge with only difference on current direction. when either threshold passed, the ACTHR bit would set according the TRM
