TPS54316: PWRGD pin

Part Number: TPS54316

We design 3.3V/3A output power using TPS54316, the input voltage is 5V. There are two questions on the open drain Pin4 - PWRGD:

1) We normally design PWRGD as a float pin, not connect and no impact to other circuit. Is it correct?

2) we want to use this pin to monitor the status of output voltage 3.3V, the circuit is Pin4 -- Chip LED -- R -- Vin_5V, what is the max. sink current of Pin4 - PWRGD? This determines R's value.

Thank you!

  • Hi WM,

    Please see below comments.

    1) We normally design PWRGD as a float pin, not connect and no impact to other circuit. Is it correct? --> If PWRGD is not used, then there is no issue to make the pin floating.

    2) we want to use this pin to monitor the status of output voltage 3.3V, the circuit is Pin4 -- Chip LED -- R -- Vin_5V, what is the max. sink current of Pin4 - PWRGD? This determines R's value. --> I recommend limiting the PWRGD pin sink current to 2.5mA (max) in determining the resistor value.

  • Hi Excel,

    Thanks for prompt reply.

Point 1, it is clearly understood.

Point 2, we use R=1.6Kohm, 0603 chip LED is ON in the event of the output voltage is OFF or out of the range. The measured LED current is 1.8mA, it works well.

    Best regards
