BQ25886: No Battery Operation

Part Number: BQ25886

Dear Sir/Ms.

My Customer asked me, BQ25886 has power path function, and then confirm the VBUS 5V input with you, but can the battery removal be stable and continue to supply power to the system?
My opinion is that the function of Power Path is that when the system is loaded (System Load) > Iin, BAT will be supplied to the system to stabilize the system.
Remove the battery, If  System Load < Iin , BAT can remove.
Is it right?

Best Regards,

Kami Huang

  • Kami,

The power path architecture allows for VSYS to be regulated with or without a battery present as long as VBUS can supply sufficient power. Please note that with no battery present VSYS will have a ripple as shown in Figure 24 of the datasheet. This ripple is expected behavior and attributed to the charging and discharging of the VBAT capacitor.

    Thanks,

    Ricardo
