TLV733P: Output current Margin

Part Number: TLV733P

Hi team

My customer want to use TLV733P for Vin:3.5V,Vout:3.3V and Iout:200~290mA.

1. I see the recommendation condition in the datasheet which mentioned that the Max output current is 300mA. Is there any margin of the  Maximum output current?

2. is there any risk if my customer use the TLV733P for Vin:3.5V,Vout:3.3V and Iout:200~290mA?

Best Regards,

  • HI Wesley,

Yes. The margin is with the minimum current limit:

The device is guaranteed to be able to support up to 300mA of load current. That being said, the ability to support the load current is a function of the dropout in the application:

So If VIN is 3.3V and VOUT is 2.8V at 300mA the power dissipation is (3.3-2.8)*0.3=0.15W. If the X2SON package is used, the estimated thermal rise above the ambient is only 0.15W*218.6C/W or 32.79C.

However, if VIN is 5V and VOUT is 2.8V at 300mA, then the power dissipation is (5-2.8)*0.3=0.66W  and for the same package, this is a ~144C rise above ambient which is likely to go into thermal shutdown.

I hope this answers your question.
