LM22680: Overload status

Part Number: LM22680

Hi Team

I have a question for you:

1. Customers also want to know the risk of lm22680 when the load current of lm22680 is 2.5A which is overload  but does not reach the chip internal condition of overcurrent protection

2. What's the risk for the chip to work when :>3A Iout > 2.5A and what's the status of the chip ?

Best Regards,

  • Hi Zhihong,

At heavy load condition, the switching current will be limited to maximum value without freq foldback, so actual output voltage and Vin voltage will define SOA at different freq, pls refer to data sheet Fig 3,4,5. operating outside SOA will cause chip overheated which will result in over temp shutdown or potential damage.
