BQ78350: Change from BQ78350 to BQ78350-R1

Part Number: BQ78350
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , BQ76920, BQ76930

Hi

BQ78350 is not recommended now.

It can be replaced by BQ78350-R1 but it is not functionally equivalent.

What is a point to be careful when we change BQ78350 to BQ78350-R1?

BestRegards

  • Hi Na Na,

The BQ78350 had some behaviors which were not as desired, and BQ78350-R1 was prepared.  There was not a migration document prepared to describe changing from BQ78350 to BQ78350-R1. Generally a person might think the -R1 is how the part should have worked, but there are some added features, so it is different.  It is hard to say what is most important to your implementation since concerns vary.

To understand the differences, see the ReleaseNotes.txt with the -R1 device firmware http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/sluc594 .  For details compare the feature description in the technical reference manuals for the BQ78350 (http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/sluuan7 ) and BQ78350-R1 (http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/sluubd3 )

  • Hi

    Thank you for your reply.

Should bq76920/930/940 be used with bq78350-R1 when 10cell li-ion battery is selected?

Could you please tell me when we should use companion devices along with bq78350 ?

    BestRegards

  • Hi Na Na,

For 10 cells the BQ76930 can be used.  The BQ78350 must always be used with one of the BQ769x0 family, it does not interface to other devices for battery measurement or gauging.
