Hi Tony,
The value of the pull down resistor from gate-to-source is typically chosen between 10kOhm and 100kOhm (can be more or can be less). If there is a series gate resistor then the value of the pull down resistor should be >>10x the series resistor value because of the resistor divider made up by the two resistors. There may be some dependence on the application and external circuitry as well.
