BQ20Z95 & CHIPSET US15W compatibility

I am currently testing a kontron motherboard equipped with an Intel US15W chipset.
This card is power supplied with a Inspired Energy battery which is controlled by a BQ 20Z95.
I receive SMBUS informations with many mistakes, or I do not get at all. (and the battery is indicated as "not present" in the motherboard bios)

1. I wanted to know if this problem was known (incompatibility US15W BQ 20Z95) ?
2. Is there any problem of compatibility between US15W & BQ 20Z95 because the chipset is SMBUS 1.0 compliant and the BQ 20Z95 is 1.1 compliant?
2. If yes there is there a solution for this?

For information :
- I have tested with several batteries and several motherboard it is the same.
- When I connect a SMBUS charger with the battery and the motherboard, the battery is indicated as "present" in the motherboard bios and I have less mistakes.
- The motherboard is a nanoETX-SP from kontron (SMBUS 1.0 colmpliant)
- Battery is a NI2020 from Inspired Energy (SMBUS 1.1 colmpliant)
- Charger is an EB259 from Inspired Energy (SMBUS 1.0 colmpliant)

I'm having the exact same issue, interfacing a nanoEXT-SP with a bq20z90EVM-001evaluation module.

Have you found any way to resolve the issue?

Hi,

No solution for the moment, I am working with Kontron to find a solution.

It seems that the BQ20Z95 has a minimum time limit that it is necessary to wait at least 150 microseconds between transactions.

And with the nanoETX-SP the smbus don't respect this timing.

I think that the solution will be to create a new bios for the nanoETX-SP which respects this time of 150µs...

Hi,

If you havn't allready found out, a new BIOS version is out NOW1R118. I havn't had a chance to try it myself, but the release notes looks promising.

Hi,

The new firmware don't solve the problem.It give us the possibility to change the speed of the smbus but in our case it is not a problem of speed.
It is a problem of waiting time between each signals.
