BQ51050B: Setting for charging a 350mAh battery and 750mAh battery for the device using BQ51050 wireless charger

Part Number: BQ51050B

Hi,

We have designed a device which is using the BQ51050B (BQ51050BRHLT) receiver and we want settings. for charging 350mAH battery and a 750mAH battery.

I guess we would like to charge the batteries in 1 hour. What would be the safe charging current for these batteries? 0.5C or 1C ?

We are unable to understand the charging settings, there is confusion on IBULK calculation and termination current. Can someone explain this?

How much current is the evaluation schematic set for? (Image attached)

  • Hello

Regarding battery and charge current ---"I guess we would like to charge the batteries in 1 hour. What would be the safe charging current for these batteries? 0.5C or 1C ?"  -- Bill J -- This will depend on the battery, check with manufacture or battery data sheet.

Battery charge current see section 8.3.4.3.1 of data sheet equation 1.

This will be Kilim / (R123+R126) with a typical Kilim of 314 this would be about 80mA charge current.  Recommend splitting the value of R123 (33%) and R126 (66%) of total value to start.  The value of R126, FOD final value is set during FOD calibration.

For Termination current see section 8.3.4.3.2 of data sheet equation 2.

Value of R128 will give a termination value of 10%.

Note also C125 is tuned to match the coil L when installed in the case on the transmitter, value of 0.1uF looks low.  See section 9.2.1.2.1 for tuning instructions.
