BQ24160: Would the I2C interface work without any input?

Hi, 

For the BQ24160 or other similar battery chargers with the I2C interface, would the I2C interface still be running if there is no AC adapter or USB input connected? I assume it should still be working from the battery, but looking at the functional block diagram, I did not see any connection going in from the battery to the charge controller.
