LP2951-Q1: Over Temperature Protection

Part Number: LP2951-Q1

Hi Team,

My customer used LP2951-Q1 and want to understand the over temperature protection feature, could you kindly shown that at which temperature point for over temperature protection?  and what your recommendation for how to verify over temperature feature?

Best Regards

Benjamin

  • Hi Benjamin,

This device does not have the thermal shutdown temperature listed, but we have verified this with an EVM.  The thermal shutdown temperature is 184 degree C and the device returns to normal operation at 174 degree C.

  • Hi Jason,

The Absolute Maximum Rating for Tj is 150'C,   if the thermal shutdown temperature is 184'C which is obviously over the maximum rating, which should not recommended for your customer to operate at such condition.

could you kindly recommended a P2P device or similar LDO with Over Temperature feature?  Expect for your reply, thanks.

    Best Regards

    Benjamin

  • Hi Benjamin,

It's common for an LDO to have a thermal shutdown temperature higher than its absolute max junction temperature. If the thermal shutdown temperature is too low, it may prevent devices from normal operation. This is a protected feature and the device reliability will be affected if the device is constantly entering/exiting the thermal shutdown. Does it make sense? Do you still need a P2P device over this one?
