BQ76PL455A-Q1: Functionality Inquiry

Part Number: BQ76PL455A-Q1

Hi Team,

I have an inquiry for a customer. I hope you can help us.

Is there a limit to how much current the balancer tries to push to the individual cells? I believe my cells are good to 5A, but I'm uncertain as to the current limit of this circuit - or does it PWM the cell?

When the packs are idle (ie virtually no current draw) does the balance circuit try to balance the pack still? Or is that only during charge/discharge cycles?

Thank you very much.

Regards,

Mark Philip Felipe

  • HI Mark,

It's passive balancing so it's limited by external circuit.

You have to select passive resistor for balancing current.

For example, if your cell is 4V and your balancing resistor is 100ohm then you are limiting to 40mA balancing.

You can go higher current with lower resistor but you need to consider thermal of PCB and components.

PL455A doesn't not do PWM. It's ON of OFF with register settings.

    Thanks

    Roger
