TPS2546: Why TPS2546 not support High speed device Wake On USB

Part Number: TPS2546

Hi,

Customer raised the question about what is the reason for HS device wake up limitation on TPS2546?

Best regards,

Randy

  • Hi Randy,

When a device is being used for Wake on USB, it does not move to  S3, DCP_auto, as the computer system requests. High speed devices typically want to use the charging ability offered when the computer is in S3 (sleep) mode. Also, high speed devices are not used to wake a computer system from sleep. High speed devices include:

    –       480 MB/s

    –       Tablets, phones, music players are examples

    –       Many devices that need battery charging

    –       Connect and suspend signaling performed at 2.0V and 0.8V hi/lo logic levels

    –       Data packet signaling performed a logic levels below 0.8V

    –       D+ high to signal connect and when placed into suspend (same as a full-speed device)

    –       D+ and D- low when not transmitting data packets

Low speed and full speed devices, such as wired/wireless mice and keyboards, are used to wake a system from sleep but a tablet or phone would not be able to wake a system.

    Thanks,

    Emma
