TPS2663: PGTH pin function

Hi Experts,

There is a description in the datasheet page 16 as shown in below.

By monitoring the output (Load) voltage through the PGTH pin, the device distinguishes between real system faults and system transients and the turn ON delay during a fault recovery is controlled accordingly. The valid load voltage detection threshold can be adjusted using a resistor ladder network from OUT, PGTH and GND. This scheme ensures fast recovery during system tests like voltage interruption and brown-out tests, EMC testing like Electrical Fast Transients (IEC61000-4-4) and Surge (IEC61000-4-5).

We are going to connect PGTH pin to GND because we do not need PGOOD pin. Looking at above description, PGTH pin configuration with divider resisters seems to be required even though PGOOD pin is not required. 

Could you please confirm if we need PGTH pin configuration is required?

  • Hello Uchikoshi-San,

    PGTH is also used for fast transient recovery  when voltage at PGTH is above PGTH threshold.

    In case of transients on input, When PGTH is connected to GND, the device will always power up the output with dVdT control. 

    In case of transients on input, If PGTH pin is connected to resistor divider on OUT and PGTH voltage is above  VPGTH , the device will power up the  output immediately without dVdT control. This provides fast transient recovery for output caps/load.

    PGOOD pin is used in conjunction with fast transient recovery to quickly charge the output caps.
