PTH12030W: Nominal operating temperature without load

Part Number: PTH12030W

Hi all,

Could someone confirm that the PTH12030W operates ~85degC in ambient natural convection conditions when not subject to any load?

It would be nice to confirm this as I am new to this device and for a nominal temperature this high for an unloaded POL supply is new to me.

If this is the case, does this device need forced cooling?

Cheers.

Steve

  • Hi Steve,

Yes, the device can operate at 85°C ambient natural convection depending on your operating conditions. For a Vout = 5V, no. We would recommend implementing a forced cooling. For a Vout less than or equal to 3.3V, yes. It should operate just fine.Take a look at figures 4, 5 and 9 in the datasheet (pages 6 & 7) to see the safe operating area under different conditions.
I would recommend taking a look at some of our other devices that might interest you for an application not requiring a Vout of 5V:
