CCS/UCD3138A: UCD3138A Design DC / DC Scheme Control Strategy

Part Number: UCD3138A

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

UCD3138A design DC / DC scheme control strategy question: Can one UCA3138A chip control 2 DC / DC? That is, the same input is 48V, one DC / DC uses a BUCK circuit to output 30V / 60A, and the other DC / DC uses a BOOST circuit to output 100V / 2A? The project is urgent, I look forward to replying, thank you very much!

  • Yes, the UCD138A can actually control 3 separate DC/DC circuits, assuming all of them have voltage loop only, and only need 2 DPWM pins each.  The 3138 has  separate EADC/Filter sets, and it has 4 DPWM modules, with 2 pins each.  So you could do 2 2 phase buck circuits, and 1 4 phase, if you want to.

  • The project requirement is that the 30V / 60A BUCK is constant voltage / constant current control (CV / CC), and the 100V / 2A BOOST is also constant voltage / constant current control (CV / CC). Does this need 4 control loops road? Can it be achieved with one UCD3138A?

Thank you very much for your answer!

  • You will need a total of 4 control loops if you want current and voltage control, so you can’t use the UCD for both power supplies. You will need 2 UCDs.
