BQ27421-G1: about Battery removal detection

Part Number: BQ27421-G1

Hi

It's me again.

1. Is it possible to detect insertion and removal of batteries with only two pins PACK+ and PACK- ?

2. When the battery is removed, which pin is the power supply for the bq27421-G1 operating?

Thanks a lot.

  • 1: No, you must also use BIN

2: The gauge must always be powered through BAT.

If you remove a battery (while the gauge is still powered through another supply on BAT), the gauge will detect this (if your design follows the example in the datasheet) because the pull-down on BIN is removed (this pull-down is part of the removable battery) and the logic level on BIN changes from 0 to 1.

Therefore you will need a third pin (resistor that will connect to BIN) together with PACK+ and PACK- to detect insertion/removal.
