BQ25896: Termination current accuracy

Part Number: BQ25896

Dear Sir

our customer use BQ25896 in their new project, and find some problem when they doing EVT test.

Below table is their test result for termination current, when Ambient temperature is 45~60 degree, termination current setting is 64mA but test result is 89mA, the accuracy around 139%.

we just want to check, base on customer current setting, the termination current accuracy will over 20% or not?

If yes, what's percentage we can follow?

Thanks a lot !!

Allen

  • Hi Allen,

Termination current accuracy is a function of charge current register setting. As shown on datasheet page 9, middle of page, ITERM accuracy can be as high as +/-20 if the ICHARGE register >1344mA.  For ITERM accuracy = +/-12%, ICHARGE register must be set below 1344mA.  Many customers use the ADC or gauge to measure ICHARGE and lower ICHARGE register setting when charge current has tapered below 1344mA during CV mode.

  • Hi Jeff

Customer's test result is 89mA at 60 degree C and it is over specification which is 64mA +- 20%.

May i have your comment for this accuracy issue?

Our charger setting conditions as below

    fast charging current = 580mA

    terminations current = 64mA,

    ambient temperature = 60 degree

    Termination current measured = 89mA

  • Hi Allen,

Can you confirm how the current is being measured?  Is it with a gauge, multimeter, current probe, across a small resistor?  Is the measuring device affected by the high temperature?

    Regards,

    Jeff
