BQ24650: bq24650

Part Number: BQ24650
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24610

Hello Team,

Part #: BQ24650, i am using for Lead Acid Battery charger application.

input source : 15V -Adaptor

Battery : 12V@7AH Battery

Input source is Not connected to Solar, i am not using MPPT feature.

Schematic reference i have taken from - SLUU444A–August 2010–Revised October 2010.

1. kindly suggest, which are the components do i need to do DNP to disable MPPT feature.

2. Disabling the MPPT feature, will this affect the Lead Acid Battery charger section ?

is there any provision to share the schematic in privately, want to keep schematic confidential.

Regards,

Vasant Anwari

  • Hi Vasant,

If you don't need MPPT feature, I would suggest to use the BQ24610. They are from the same family, however BQ24650 has MPPSET (VINDPM functionality) and BQ24610 has input current regulation functionality. The mechanism to do lead acid charging on BQ24650 is the same as for BQ24610.

However for BQ24610 you have more control over your precharge and fast charge current settings through the use of ISET pins.

  • Dear Kedar Manishankar,

    BQ24610 : Stand-alone synchronous switch-mode Li-ion or Li-polymer battery charger with 5V–28V VCC input

    Cell Chemistry : Li-Ion/Li-Polymer

Datasheet is not showing for Lead Acid battery. Please confirm to use BQ24610 device to charge Lead Acid and Li-Ion Battery.

    Regards,

    Vasant Anwari.

  • Hi Vasant,

Datasheet has just been updated to reflect Lead-Acid charging chemistry. Rev D of the BQ24610 datasheet shows typical application schematic for lead acid charging in Figure 25., lead acid charge profile in fig 13, and section 3 Description has been updated to reflect support of lead acid batteries.
