Could you please explain why there is an internal diode and how the internal diode works in the circuit?

Also, for what the "Slop Comp" and "Freq Foldback" blocks are here, and how they work in the circuit?

Actually it‘s a bootstrap diode, you can find the basic operation of bootstrap circuit on this application note:

The slope comp is a part of peak current control, you can find its theory on this note:

As to frequency foldback, I think the below note helps a lot elaborating the mode switching in peak current mode device:
