BQ25606: BQ25606

Part Number: BQ25606
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24170,

Hi team ,

my customer is surveying a charger solution with below spec

  • 12Vin
  • 1 cell Li-ion battery with max 3A charging current
  • standalone

in previous they using BQ24170 as solution but they wanted to survey if we have newer solution,

I found BQ25606 might be fit since it got internal FET and power path, not sure if this device is an good fit or not?

another question is that, I also seems this device can use for USB port charger with D+/D- , what if I don't use with USB charging just adapter charging, can I left D+/D- open?

Andy

  • Hi Team,

Add one more require from customer,

do we have the solution that fit above spec and with 2*Stat pin to show the different color when charging in progress and charging  finish?

  • Hi Andy,

BQ25606 is a good candidate with fully integrated solution. Please refer to Page 4 of the BQ25606 datasheet. If the D+ / D- are floating, the input source is detected as “unknown”. The ILIM determines the input current. We don't have new solutions with 2 STAT pins.

  • Hi Eric,

thanks for feedback, that's what I think for BQ25606 might be a good fit since it's fully integrated solution, so the total area is smaller and it's more cost effective compare to BQ24170.

for the D+/D- description , by the mean, if I can left D+/D-  floating , it just can't detect the input source type.

but if I just use adapter(12V DC plug) as charging input , not USB port , it still can work as functional standalone battery charger right?

    Andy

  • Hi Andy,

Leaving D+/D- floating means BQ25606 will detect input source as unknown adapter, and will not set input current limit according to SDP, CDP or DCP adapter settings. Instead input current limit will be set solely by ILIM pin, once adapter is detected as unknown. Yes you can use your adapter. Acceptable ILIM range is between 500mA and 3200mA.

  • thanks Kedar and Eric!
