TPS7A26: How about the efficiency of TPS7A26 and LP8340

Part Number: TPS7A26
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP8340,

Hi team,

custoemr need a very low Iq LDO in battery applicaiton, the spec as below:

input is 6.5V

output 3.3V

output current >500mA

they have evaluate the TPS7A26 and LP8340, they have below quesitons:

1. how about the efficiency of TPS7A26 and LP8340

2. any more better recommendation

3. if they use adjust version of TPS7A26, they want to increase the divider value to decrease power consumption, what't the maximum reisitor vaule.

thank you

  • Hi Betty,

To compare LDO efficiency, look at the IGND graph Figure 12 of TPS7A26 datasheet. For Iout = 500 mA, the IGND = 135 uA.

For LP8340, see the equivalent IGND graph in LP8340 datasheet figure 9. for Iout = 500 mA, the IGND = 18 uA.

IGND is the current used by the regulator to operate and is conducted from Vin to GND pin.

The TPS7A26 consumes more current for the same Iout compared to LP8340, so LP8340 would be more efficient in this application. TPS7A26 uses more current for several reasons: capable of operating up to Vin = 18 V, has enable pin function and power good pin function.

For maximum recommended resistor divider value on TPS7A26, see equation (5) on page 17 of the datasheet.

  • Hi Betty,

These are our best two parts for Iout = 500 mA.
