TPS23756: TPS23756 class and power limit

Part Number: TPS23756

Dear Sir/Ms.

The customer confirmed that after the TPS23756 R_CLS was replaced with 1.5K ohm or 137 ohm, the Classification Current value would be the same as that in Datashhet.
But after using 137 ohm set to Class 2, 13W power can still be pumped from the PSE end. What other settings will affect the power load limitation? If the customer wants to limit Class 2, what are the methods?

Best  Regards,

Kami Huang

  • Hi Kami,

Note per the IEEE standard, the Class 2 power requirement is a minimum spec for the PSE power. So for Class 2 the minimum power required to be outputted by the PSE is 7W.

If a PSE has power port management, it can choose to output lower than 13W (down to 7W) but is not required. Therefore some PSE's like high performance switches will do it, and some like a low cost PSE injector will not.
