TPS40170: output overshoot issue

Hi,

Customer used TPS40170 for 24V to 12V, in some case, need to plug and unplug 24V supply.

When 24V drops to about 7V, then power on again, TPS40170 output will generate an overshoot, which will reach 24v or higher for about 3ms, please refer picture and schematic as attachment.

Could you please provide a description or an explanation of TPS40170 working status in this case?

    Hi Sean,

    The overshoot is caused by output recovery from low drop-out without soft start.

    Pls try below solutions:

    1. Disable circuit when Vin drop below 12V

    2. carefully design R341 to limit maximum inductor current.

    3. optimize COMP value for faster loop response.
