TPS63001: what is the use of R3 100R and C4 0.1uF

Part Number: TPS63001
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24040,

what is the use of R3-100R and C4 is 0.1uf in typical application schematic.

if i remove R3 100R , then what is the effect on IC performance and IC output.

  • Hi Vinay,

the purpose of these two components is to supply VINA/EN/PS/SYNC with a stable VIN voltage. Please read this for further details on the specific pins.

The network of R3 and C4 is a low pass filter to prevent line or load transients to shoot through to those pins and trigger an event like unwanted undervoltage lockout or power cycling.

if you remove R3 and leave an open, the device will not start.

    Hope this helps.

    regards,

    Moritz

  • we removed 100ohm R105 resistor and placed 0ohm resistor , after placing 0ohm resistor , bq24040 is able to recover faster and charging the battery(*battery is at complete drained/0V) ????? this is correct or wrong we don't know!!!!!!!!!!

  • Battery @0V/complete drained at J14.(BQ24040 not able to charge the battery)
    if BQ24040 5V at IN(Pin 1): at J14(PIN 1) is 1.6V and at TPS63001 VIN(Pin 5) is 1.6V(No PG led glowing)
    if BQ24040 0V at IN(Pin 1): at J14(PIN 1) is 0V and at TPS63001 VIN(Pin 5) is 0

Battery @3V(Battery cutoff)/complete drained at J14.(BQ24040 able to charge the battery)
    if BQ24040 5V at IN(Pin 1): at J14(PIN 1) is 3V and at TPS63001 VIN(Pin 5) is 3V( PG led glowing)
    if BQ24040 0V at IN(Pin 1): at J14(PIN 1) is 3V and at TPS63001 VIN(Pin 5) is 3V

  • Hi Moritz,

If i remove R3-100R resistor and VINA/EN/PS/SYNC directly short with VIN without any resistor.

it will effect on TPS63001 performance?

The problem is BQ24040 is with TPS63001, if battery with drain condition and R3 is 100R it is not able to charge the battery.

if R3 is 0R/directly short with VIN , BQ24040 able to recover faster.

    Thanks,

    Vinay.

  • Hi Vinay,

removing the R3 resistor will not affect the performance of TPS63001.

    regards,

    Moritz
