Hi,

We are planning on using this device for our battery management and have several (very basic) questions to get started.

1. Which document should we follow for performing learning cycle on our Lead Acid batteries.

2. SLUA665 document refers to "Preparing Optimized Default Flash Constants for bq34z1xx”, could not find this exact titled document. I have the SLUA334B document, but it refers to bq20zxx fuel gauges, not the one we need.

3. What software should be used for creating golden image file, bqStudio or bq Eval software ?

4. Where to find bqTester ROM imager utility on TI website?

5. Whats the difference between .gg file and .ROM file ?

6. The bqStudio software seems to generate .srec file, what is it used for?

Please help us get started.

BQ34z100-Q1 is supported by bqStudio and therefore you can use bqStudio to create a golden image file.

thanks for the response.

But the SLUA665 document does not say anything about SREC file that bqStudio generates.

Can you please clarify how .gg file, .rom file, .srec file are different and when to use them.

Hi,

Just so I understand this correctly,

we need EV2400 and an evaluation board with this BQ34Z100-G1 device and USB cable along with our batteries to perform learning cycle, correct ?

do we need anything else?

You would also need some equipment to charge or discharge your batteries. For example, you can use a lab supply to charge your batteries.

Also, can someone give full and complete process of learning cycle or direct me to correct TI documents. Different documents refer to things differently and there is no consistency.

Is bqStudio the only software we need for performing learning cycle? why do we need the evaluation software ?

Up to now, the app note I provide above is the most comprehensive document that explains how to do the learning cycle for the bq34z100.

The bqStudio is used because it is the easiest tool to monitor the gauge device during the learning cycle. It also can be used to create log files for the learning cycle test. If any issue occurs, you can send us these log files so that we can help you find the cause.
